Cy pres (residual funds)
Cy pres is a French term that means “as near as possible.” Courts use it when leftover funds cannot go to class members or beneficiaries. California Code of Civil Procedure section 384 governs this. Naming this office puts residual funds toward free bilingual legal work.
We have provided free legal services since 1973. In 2019 the City named us a Legacy Business. In 2022 the Board of Supervisors honored the office during Women’s History Month for keeping in-person consults open through the COVID pandemic. Write info@lrcl.org to designate a cy pres or residual-fund award.
