Workers’ Rights Program

For more than 30 years we have protected low-wage and immigrant workers cheated out of wages or exploited by unscrupulous employers — including domestic workers, restaurant workers, car-wash workers, and construction workers.

We have recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in wage-and-hour, retaliation, and discrimination cases through settlements and judgments. We also provide education and outreach so workers know their rights.

Services

Wage theft and misclassification

Wage-and-hour cases, overtime, meal and rest breaks, and employment misclassification before the California Labor Commissioner (DLSE) and the U.S. Department of Labor.
Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation

Unlawful employment discrimination (including English-only policies), sexual harassment, and retaliation before the California Civil Rights Department and the EEOC.
San Francisco labor ordinances

We aid workers before the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (OLSE) on minimum wage, paid parental leave, lactation in the workplace, family-friendly leave, paid sick leave, and the Fair Chance Ordinance.
Coalitions

We work through the SF Workers’ Rights Community Collaborative (with OLSE, Chinese Progressive Association, Asian Law Caucus, Filipino Community Center, Mission Action, SOMA Action Network, and Young Workers United) and the statewide Coalition of Low-Wage and Immigrant Worker Advocates (CLIWA).
